The suspect in the Las Vegas shooting was a professor who had applied to work at UNLV, according to an AP source.

The shooter was reportedly at UNLV's Lee Business School, located in the Beam Hall, Frank and Estella Building in Las Vegas, according to the institution. The 332-acre (135-hectare) UNLV campus is situated less than two miles east of the Strip.

A professor who had applied for a job at the university but was turned down was the man accused of shooting 3 people dead and wounded another on Wednesday at a university in Las Vegas, a law enforcement person with direct knowledge of the case told The Associated Press.

Police claimed that the gunman was shot and killed by law enforcement. The community, still reeling after the deaths of sixty people in a mass shooting in 2017, was rocked by the attack at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

In an additional post at 11:59 a.m., the school stated that University Police were “responding to a confirmed active shooter situation in BEH”. This isn’t an exam.

At 12:04 p.m., Las Vegas police verified that they were responding to initial reports of an active shooter on the campus of UNLV. “It looks like there are several victims right now,” the LVMPD stated, cautioning the public to stay away from the area.
